St. Thomas Legion athletes produce 23 top five results.

LASALLE, ON. - AJ Stanat, Tayah De Sousa and Hallee Knelsen are riding the momentum of their high school seasons into the club campaign, competing for the St. Thomas Legion.

All three athletes concluded their respective high school track and field seasons at the OFSAA championships and were in fine form at the Royal Canadian Legion District A track and field championships, at Sandwich secondary school, June 15-16.
Stanat, throwing for Parkside CI, won gold at OFSAA, in midget men's discus and bronze in shot put. Therefore, not a surprise Stanat won both the midget boys' shot put (14.18 metres) and discus (45.08m), at the district meet.
De Sousa won both the midget girls' 80-metre hurdles (12.52 seconds) and long jump (4.82 metres) and finished second in the 200 metre hurdles.
Knelsen won the midget girls' 1200 and 2000 metre races and placed second in the 800 metre race.
St. Thomas Legion had 23 top five results.
Kyra Vellina won the midget girls' 200-metre hurdles, finished second in the 200 metre sprint and third in the 300 metre sprint.
Katherine Heard finished second in the midget girls' 100 metre sprint (13.51 seconds).
Claireese Coffey was third, in midget girls' triple jump (9.70 metres) and fourth, in long jump (4.41m), both personal best distances.
Lily Francis won the midget girls' pentathlon, with 2320 points. Francis won high jump, long jump, 80-metre hurdles and the 800 metres, while placing second in shot put.
Harrison Belanger finished third in both the midget boys' 1200 and 2000 metre races and fifth, in the 800 metres.
Dylen Belanger won a bronze in the midget boys' 200-metre hurdles and finished fourth, in both the 80-metre hurdles and 300-metres.
Jared Parkin was third, in youth boys' shot put (12.84m) and seventh, in discus (33.00m).
Joshua McCandless was third in midget boys long jump (5.03m).
Stanat, Knelsen, De Sousa, Francis and Vellinga, advance to the Ontario Legion championships, in St. Catharines, July 13-14.
The National Legion championships, are in Brandon, Manitoba, August 10-12.
